Times of Transition

transition Dec 01, 2023

Transition can happen in many ways. Sometimes it is deliberate, expected, and wanted. Other times it is it catches us off guard and is not wanted. Either way, transition means leaving what is known or familiar for something that may be uncomfortable and scary. Times of transition means you, things in your world, or things around you are changing and you may not even know if it is for the better or worse. What we do know is that things do not feel secure or stable and in times like these, we may doubt ourselves.

With times of transition, I learned it is best to pause and breathe. Quick decisions and impulsive actions impact our tomorrow and those around us. And PLEASE be cautious of the voices in your ear. Just because someone else did or is doing ABC does not mean you should too. Let me hop on my soapbox for a minute and say consider your source. =If the person giving you advice is not stable in their own life and changes their mind like the wind… (I digress. Let me hop off my soapbox).

When you land on a decision you want it to be for the right reason because you were intentional. You want to be able to look back and say you made the best decision you could with the information you had at that given time.

It's not about what you should do, but having a process to make decisions.

During transition, I have seen people bury their heads in the sand and do nothing or make hasty decisions without counting the cost. It is good business and life practice to count the cost first!

Here are some things you can do:

  • Pause and Breathe: Take care of yourself (Eating, sleeping, exercise routines, connect with others. Remember it is okay to have fun).
  • Give Yourself a Moment: You may need a second to get grounded and think clearly. And for those of you who are feelers like me, go ahead and feel all your feelings, think clearly, and move towards action.
  • Talk with Someone You Trust: To help you think clearly, meet with your spiritual leader, your therapist, your coach, a trusted friend who will tell you like it is and knows you well. Pray, meditate, journal.
  • Watch for New Insights, Revelation, and Clarity: (You cannot gain clarity if your head is buried in the sand, and you are avoiding decision-making like the plague.)
  • Look Inward and Pay Attention: Maybe this transition is helping you healing from your past. Are becoming a healthier version of yourself? Notice your vision changing and an increase in wisdom. Notice new strategies and ideas. Be open to opportunities. Notice your strengths and accept imperfections.
  • Practice Self-Compassion: Celebrate your wins and know the unexpected will happen.
  • Make a Decision: You may not have controlled what brought on the need for transition, but you do have a say in how you move forward.

Whether you are in personal or professional transition I can provide you with tools to emerge a better version of yourself. Book a complementary session and let’s get started.
