Sometimes You Want to Go Where Everybody Knows Your Name

the nine type of rest Oct 15, 2023

We are all probably familiar with the feelings invoked from the Cheers theme song.

Sometimes we really do want to go where everybody knows our name and they're always glad we came. Doesn't that sound great?

It’s a warm place to just be welcomed and cared for. That place for me was my mom’s. She didn’t want anything from me. She only wanted to feed me and speak words of life. She was my biggest cheerleader and #1 fan!

For many years I walked and lived in spaces in which I was the giver, the nurturer, and the one who did the words of encouragement. After all, I am a therapist. Helping others is what I love!

However I learned personal and professional growth requires being with some people who don’t need or want anything from me. It’s not just smart business, it’s self-care. I sought out a support system of people willing to contribute to me and who asked for nothing in return. I hope I’ve made them all proud. I was worth it and so are you.

Now I want to show you how to build your village. Watch my free webinar and schedule a complementary strategy session.

Your development is personal to me!

The Nine Types of Rest

Humankind has frequently thought of rest in a homogenous way. Rest has meant getting a full night's sleep, having work-life balance, getting away on vacations. The enneagram shows us that we know ourselves better than we think we do, but what we know intuitively, we may not be able to put into words or see the holes where we know something without quite understanding the roots of where it comes from. We know what we like, but may not understand the depth of why we like it. We know what works for us and what doesn't, but we may not be able to give someone a five paragraph essay as to why.

The enneagram gives us a shortcut for that. So do the 9 Nine Types of Rest, synthesized from enneatypes.

It makes sense that just as we all wear different sized clothes, have different colored walls and decorations in our homes, or enjoy or detest certain foods, that the recipe for rest would look different for us all as well.

Since reading The 9 Types of Rest, I encourage people when planning vacations and time off to rest in the way that will work best from them, the kind that feels soul deep and leaves them refreshed and renewed and not just another city, place, or thing to cross off their list. Read the nine types and then ask yourself: what type of rest resonates the most with me? How can I be intentional about reserving that kind of rest for myself going forward? Because there's just no sense in putting the wrong kind of fuel in your tank or only filling it up a quarter when you know you have too many miles up ahead. We deserve to invest in ourselves in the most effective way possible. And then do it again.
